New stretch goals!
over 6 years ago – Tue, Aug 01, 2017 at 05:33:34 AM

Hey!

Within 25 hours of the project launching, we smashed through our initial set of stretch goals, raising more than $20,000 towards Ninjitsu!

Hot dog!

Well, I'm excited to announce that we've put our heads together and come up with more stretch goals for you. If we can raise enough money towards the project, we can make the game bigger, cooler, and even more replayable!

Let's look at the chart:

Here's what we have ahead of us!

At $30k, we are going to DOUBLE the number of special powers that come in The Elements mini-expansion! This means when you're dealt your elemental player power, you can choose which of the two abilities to use that game.

(This includes our brand new Magic promo card that we unlocked earlier in the week!)

At $40k, we'll be doing what we did with Scuttle!, and making each of the 3 aces from the base game unique! We have some ideas for what the new aces will do, but as we get closer to that goal, we're going to open it up to you - anyone whose suggestion makes it into the game will get credited in the Special Thanks section, so get your thinking caps prepped!

At $50k, the two expansions will come in little tuck boxes! I'm excited about this stretch goal for a few reasons, which I'll talk about when we're about to unlock it!

Finally, if we can reach $60k, we'll be adding a whole new mini-expansion to the game! Anyone who pledges at the NINJA MASTER level or higher will get the Heavy Weather mini-expansion included with their order, at no extra cost!

(This is probably the stretch goal that Kelly is most excited about - she's been wanting to do the Heavy Weather expansion since Scuttle! shipped!)

If you're keen to help us rocket past those stretch goals, then please - tell your friends, tell your family, tell your Kickstarter-savvy pet! If you know someone who you think would enjoy the game, point them to ninjitsugame.com and let them know how Kickstarter works.

If they get in fast, they might be lucky enough to be our 1000th backer (!!!)

Speaking of ludicrously high numbers, can you believe we're almost halfway there!? This project was launched 3 days ago, and we're almost at $30,000.

Thirty. Thousand. Dollars.

For comparison, Scuttle! hit $30k on its 15th day, almost halfway through the campaign!

This ridiculous feat is all because of you. Kelly, Nicole, and I all wanted thank you, genuinely. Thanks so much for your support in us, thank you so much for your enthusiasm for the game...and thank you all for your patience as we sorted out the weird shipping cost bugs.

Kelly and I have been working on this game for well over a year now (I remember playing an early Ninjitsu! prototype on an early date with the person I'm now married to, believe it or not!) and we're so, so excited to see it connecting with so many people.

Thank you! We're so dang grateful for your support.

If there's anything we can do for you, please let us know in the comments.

Cheers,
-P

The Ninja Master pledge level!
almost 7 years ago – Sat, Jul 29, 2017 at 12:40:41 AM

Hey!

This is just a small update: the NINJA MASTER pledge level has been fixed!

...sort of.

Kickstarter has been showing all kinds of weird errors in the last 24 hours. The biggest one: for about 10 hours, creators weren't able to comment on their own projects.

The most relevant one for us is that the "international" option for Ninjitu!'s NINJA MASTER pledge level mysteriously disappeared. We were getting a few comments each hour about it, so we decided to just go ahead and add a new pledge option, with both international and US shipping enabled.

Well, as soon as it went up, Kickstarter reset the US shipping cost to "$0".

I'll be honest: it would be really nice to be able to offer free shipping for this game! But we absolutely cannot afford to.

This bug is super frustrating. Until Kickstarter responds to our messages and helps us fix the project up, here's what we need to do:

International backers, please select the second NINJA MASTER pledge level (the one without the itemized list).

US backers, please select the first NINJA MASTER pledge level, the one with the itemized list. This will charge you $5 for shipping, which is the correct amount.

I'm really sorry about this! We were sending screenshots back and forth while we were creating the pledge levels, so we know for sure that it's an error in the system.

In other news: we are almost at $20k!!! That is AMAZING! Thank you all so much for your support - I just hope that we can get this bug ironed out quickly, so that we can focus on the more exciting parts of the campaign...like the new stretch goals we're going to be announcing tomorrow!

Thank you so much for your support, and for your patience as we get this fixed up.

Cheers,
-Peter

Funded in 2 hours!!
almost 7 years ago – Tue, Jul 25, 2017 at 10:50:57 AM

Holy mackerel, we did it!!

Hi! My name's Peter - I'm the designer of Ninjitsu!, the founder of Jellybean Games, and the blue-bearded Australian you'll remember from the video at the top of the campaign page.

(If you haven't had a chance to watch it yet, go check it out now! It features my little sister dressed as a ninja. As all Kickstarter videos should.)

(Also, there was a duck hanging out in the background while we recorded. We did not notice this until we were editing it all together.)

My job is to keep you in the loop on the project, the campaign, the game - think of me as your personal tour guide through the entire Kickstarter process! I'll probably post an update once or twice a week during the campaign, and then you'll get weekly or fortnightly* updates until the game arrives to your door.

*Australians say "fortnightly". Why? Because it's a super useful word!

A little about me: I have an incredibly sweet tooth, I used to be a full-time author, and I co-host two and a half podcasts. My favorite Muppet is the Swedish Chef, my favorite game is Scythe, and my favorite city in the world is Chicago.

For breakfast today, I had a meat pie and a lamington (I'm back in Australia for the first time in 2 years, showing my new spouse off to my family and friends) and

The campaign has been live for just over 3 hours now, and I already have three big pieces of news:

Firstly, there's a weird bug with the $19 pledge level. Right now, it's not letting people pledge from outside the US. I've let Kickstarter know, and I'm hoping that'll be fixed soon.

In the meantime, if you're not located in the US and want a copy of the $19 pledge level, just pledge at any level - I'll post an update as soon as it's fixed, and you can adjust your pledge then.

Secondly, and much more excitingly: we have funded!! In fact, more than that - as I write this, we just hit $6k - 200% funded!!

This game is gonna exist! We're going to make it and send it to you and you can play it for real!

And thirdly, hitting $6k means that we've unlocked our first stretch goal! Let's go to the chart:

That's right, we've unlocked Captain Bluebeard! Captain Bluebeard was the promo card from Scuttle! (the first game in the series) - Kelly is looking forward to revisiting the character and showing us how he's coping with all these ninjas...

Our next stretch goal is at $7k - upgraded box! This will upgrade the game from a tuckbox to a sturdy telescoping box, of the same size and shape as Scuttle!

That's all for today! It's 4am in Australian time, so I'm going to get some sleep. I'll be back later this week with the latest news from the campaign.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about anything, feel free to leave them in the comments! Our Operations Manager works on US time, so she'll be around for the rest of the day to answer any queries you may have.

Most importantly: thank you so much for helping us kick this campaign off with a bang! Without you, we wouldn't be able to make this game. Kelly and I are so, so excited!
